Make the Switch to a Period Cup
After being pregnant, getting my cycle on track and finishing up any products I already had, I finally made the switch to a period cup! The first 24 hours were intense (yes my first retrieval took 45 minutes), but by the second day I was a pro. I am so excited to have a more sustainable and low maintenance option for my periods! Here are some things you should know if you are considering making the switch:
Always choose medical grade silicone so you know it is safe for you.
Most brands offer multiple sizes. Many say if you have had a baby to choose the second size up, but if you know yourself go with your gut. (I think I could have gone smaller.)
Be ready for the learning curve. Read all instructions and try out different methods of insertion and removal. You will find the one that works best for you. (I insert it standing up with one leg on toilet and for easy removal I sit down on the toilet and bear down like I have to go to the bathroom.)
When you insert make sure you feel around it to double check that there are no ripples. If so, it has not opened all the way up yet.
If you are trying for the first time I would test it out towards the second half of your period to minimize the mess.

Many of you told me that you tried a few different ones before you found the perfect one or you bounce between two sizes. Some brands offer a pack of two in small and larger sizes so you have both.
As your period gets lighter and lighter, you can always test out a pair of absorbent underwear or rather than putting the cup in.
When I storied about switching to a cup the main message I got was “It has changed my life.” “I am never going back!” “Stick with it”
