Safer Sunscreen Cheat Sheet
Every year I highlight sunscreen because it is so important to stay updated on what’s safe! Thank goodness there are more and more brands that are providing safe, quality coverage! I hope this graphic above helps you understand the key differences between physical and chemical sunscreens. A few important tips I want to point out this year:
Anything higher than SPF 50 is likely marketing and providing a false sense of extra protection.
Make sure to reapply after sweating or getting wet.
No matter what reapply every two hours. If you are more sensitive like me shoot for every hour.
SPF only protects against UVB rays (burn rays); however, both UVA and UVB rays can contribute to skin cancers. Make sure you are getting a “broad spectrum” sunscreen that protects against both.
