GreenPan: Safer for You Non-Stick Ceramic Pans
I have finally made switched out all of my pots and pans to safer! If only I knew what I know now when I was registering for our wedding. Oh well, you live and learn and do what you can. You will probably recall that my first switch to safer in this department was getting a cast iron skillet and doing most of my cooking in that. It made for a quick, affordable switch in the pan department. Thanks to GreenPan I have now switched my full set over.
The Gist:
Most non-stick pans contain PFOA or PFAS in the production process.
PFOA, or more commonly known as Teflon, is dangerous because it can stay in the environment and the body for long periods of time and is a known carcinogen.
Both PFAS and PFOA are used in the process of making Teflon and are toxic substances.
GreenPan uses a non-stick coating called Thermalon which is a sand derivitave.
It can withstand up to 450 degrees C; therefore, it doesn't not blister or break any sealing. Sometimes it only takes a pan a couple of minutes to overheat on the stove on which case toxic fumes could be released from traditional coated pans.
It creates a wonderful non-stick surface that is super easy to use (makes excellent eggs!)
The ceramic coating also makes it easy to clean with soapy water and a sponge. I have found food comes off better if you clean it immediately after using.
