Clean Holiday Travel
This post is inspired by an Air Bnb we stayed in that was filled with cigarette smoke and Glade Plug Ins. It wreaked beyond belief and there was a very obvious chemical film in the air. Then I thought, '“Well shoot, I don’t want to go purchase the proper hand soap, cleaning products or laundry detergent for a few nights.” Then I decided I would never travel again without my little Clean Living Arsenal.
Before I get to the specific products to travel with, I want to touch on the topic of removal. This is a free step anyone can do to make a safer choice in their homes now! Cleaning products contain so many hazardous chemicals and pollute inside air just by sitting there. I challenge you to see what kind of difference it can make in your health to get these products outside of your home. Symptoms like coughing, rashes, allergies and weakened immune systems can be turned around by the simple step of removal.
Branch Basics has done a great job educating on this with their #tossthetoxins campaign. Here is a direct quote from the Branch Basics team on how to start removing products.
“It doesn’t cost one thing to remove. You can impact your air quality right away. You can always use our Sterilite Box method and keep things you might use one by one until replacements are found…People will have to purchase cleaners when they’re gone anyways. but people don’t have to keep them in their house. Keep them in a bin.”
While traveling, you can simply remove cleaners and air fresheners and stick them on the porch while you stay there. Here is what I am going to make sure I have with me from now, especially while renting through Air Bnb etc.
My Clean Living Travel Arsenal:
Hand Soap: I love this Mini Hand Foamer by Branch Basics or you can just squirt your safe one from your home in the silicone travel container. I misplaced my foamer so I put this one by Seventh Generation in there. (Other safe options are Everyone, Puracy and Dr. Bronner’s.)
Dish Soap: I use this Seventh Generation dish soap. It really cuts grease!
All Purpose Spray: I use this mini Branch Basics bottle that you can see in the picture above. Makes it easy to throw and go. It’s also a great stain remover!
Laundry Detergent: Squirt your safe laundry detergent in the travel bottle and you’re all set! I use Branch Basics
Wool Dryer Balls (Optional. I’m happy to just forgo this for a load or two. But if you have space why not?)
Dishwasher detergent: This is one that is hard since you can’t know what type of dishwasher your place will have. If you are really sensitive email your host beforehand to ask so you can be prepared. Here are some options by Seventh Generation, Puracy and Grab Green.
Store it all in a Stasher Bag and you are ready to grab it whenever you travel next!
